Road maintenance
Road Surveillance Victoria provides a comprehensive range of road maintenance services to support the effective planning and delivery of works. Our focus is on ensuring maintenance crews are well prepared and that potential future road safety risks are identified early. This is achieved through systematic scoping, detailed recording, and thorough inspection of critical components within our road infrastructure.
Dilapidation reports
(01)
Asset reporting
(02)
We provide comprehensive dilapidation reporting to document pre-existing conditions surrounding the worksite prior to construction. This ensures any existing damage is accurately recorded, protecting crews and contractors from being incorrectly held responsible. Our process includes detailed photographic and video evidence captured before works commence, creating a robust and defensible record. This thorough documentation can help mitigate disputes and potentially prevent costs amounting to tens of thousands of dollars.
Our surveillance officers are experienced in a wide range of asset condition and maintenance reporting activities. Whether undertaking culvert inspections across the state, conducting assessments following extreme weather events, or preparing general road maintenance condition reports, we provide reliable and detailed evaluations. Our team systematically assesses pavement condition, drainage performance, roadside hazards, signage, line marking, and other critical infrastructure elements. This proactive approach helps identify defects early, prioritise maintenance requirements, and support informed decision-making.
Bushfire reporting

Road hazards
(04)
Following major bushfire events, roads and critical infrastructure can be significantly compromised, creating hazards for road users and the wider community. Our surveillance officers can be deployed to fire-affected areas to undertake detailed condition assessments and provide comprehensive reporting on issues impacting public safety and network functionality. These assessments include evaluation of pavement integrity, guardrail and barrier damage, signage and delineation visibility, drainage performance, roadside hazards such as fallen trees or debris, and the condition of culverts
Whether responding to fallen trees, potholes, or other roadway defects, our officers can be deployed to identify, assess, and report hazards quickly and accurately. We have the capability to proactively patrol the road network, systematically documenting risks that may impact safety, traffic flow, or asset condition. Our network surveillance includes identifying pavement failures, debris, drainage issues, damaged signage, vegetation encroachment, and roadside hazards. Each observation is supported by detailed notes, photographs, and location data to ensure clear communication and efficient maintenance response.
Final inspection
If a project has been completed but there is no independent resource available to assess the quality of the works, our team can provide a professional post-completion inspection and reporting service. Road Surveillance Victoria conducts detailed site assessments to evaluate workmanship, compliance with scope, and overall asset condition. Our officers document pavement quality, reinstatement standards, drainage performance, line marking, signage, roadside finishes, and any defects or incomplete items. Each inspection is supported by comprehensive reporting, including photographs, location references, and clear commentary outlining observations and recommended actions.
