Landslide Mitigation

20230110_112149.jpg

Working on landslides presents complex safety, technical and environmental challenges. Ground conditions are unstable, with ongoing movement, hidden voids and saturated soils increasing the risk of further failure. Access is often steep, narrow and close to live traffic, making plant movements and pedestrian safety critical. Weather can rapidly change site conditions, triggering new slips or rockfall. Services, drainage paths and property boundaries may be buried or exposed without warning. Every task must be planned with conservative load limits, constant monitoring and clear exclusion zones to protect workers and the public. Our officers have experience with some of Victoria's largest landslides from the 2022 Bogong Landslide to multiple landslides along Cornhill Road at Mt Buller.
